About Silent Book Club Martha's Vineyard
History of SBC
The Silent Book Club (SBC) was founded in 2012 by a pair of friends in San Francisco. The club was created as an alternative to traditional book clubs, which the founders found to be too much like homework. Today Silent Book Club is a global community of readers, with nearly 1,500 chapters in 50+ countries around the world led by local volunteers.
Silent Book Club MV is the first (and only) chapter on Martha’s Vineyard. We meet monthly.
Our Mission
We want to build a stronger sense of Vineyard community by providing opportunities for great reading and social connection. We want to support independent bookstores. We want to support non-profit Vineyard organizations.
